Iron Belle Trail & Downriver Linked Greenways

The Iron Belle Trail is a state-wide initiative being led by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) in conjunction with a significant number of partners and local agencies. The intent of the Iron Belle is to link the wealth of natural and cultural resources in the state via two routes – a hiking route and a biking route connecting Belle Isle in Detroit to Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula. The proposed hiking route heads south from Detroit, through 10 Downriver communities, primarily following the emerging Downriver Linked Greenways Initiative (DLGI) route.

The 501(c)(3) DLGI and associated communities and agencies are excited to be part of the Iron Belle Trail and are working together to continue to develop and improve the facilities and aesthetics of the route while raising awareness of the numerous cultural and natural resources the Downriver area has to offer.
