Recreational Fire Policy

Recreational fires in an open pit are allowed without permit provided they conform to the following:

  • Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material, and must be less than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height.
    • If in an approved container (commercially made fire pit) the distance to structure or combustible material is no less than 15 feet.
  • The fire is constantly supervised until extinguished, and must have a minimum of a portable fire extinguisher, charged garden hose or shovel and sand on hand for extinguishment.
  • Only dry firewood will be allowed to be burned. The burning of leaves, grass, paper, refuse, and old building materials are strictly prohibited.

Outdoor Fireplaces

Outdoor Fireplaces and portable outdoor fireplaces shall be used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, as well as the conditions listed above, however, the distance from structures and combustible materials is reduced to 15 feet.
