Full-Time Police Officer

The City of Trenton is hiring full-time police officers for immediate openings. 

 

About Trenton PD: The department is budgeted for 34 full-time sworn officers, who primarily work 12-hour shifts. Trenton offers career opportunities and growth, and the department has divisions in traffic, uniform, investigative, K9 and specialized units (such as the Downriver Mutual Aid Task Force, Crash Investigation Team, Homeland Security Investigations, Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT, and Dive Team Units).

 

What We Offer: Trenton offers an annual starting pay of $47,981 and after five years, $73,471. Police Officers with certified police officer experience are eligible for up to 2 years of immediate lateral pay adjustments to a maximum starting base pay rate of $57,825. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package plus a defined benefit pension in accordance with PA Act 345.

PART-TIME POSITIONS

Swim Club Head Coach

Overview: The Head Coach is expected to maintain a multi-tiered, structured swimming program with the support of the swim board.  The Head Coach must have the appropriate certifications as required by USA Swimming. The Head Coach helps oversee the club operations and assists with the team budget. The Head Coach is responsible for setting up the season schedule (this includes the practice schedule and swim meets) along with hiring and terminating the Assistant Coaching staff, with the approval of the swim board. 

Starting date: As soon as possible 

Examples of Work:  

  • Plan, prepare and conduct swimming and dryland workouts for all level swimmers
  • Plan out season practices, meets and other team events.
  • Communicate all team policies and expectations to staff, parents and team members. 
  • Assists in the recruitment, scheduling, and training of part-time staff and/or volunteers
  • Assist in overall evaluation of staff and programs
  • Serve as a liaison between the general public and the City of Trenton Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Perform other duties as necessary

 Minimum Qualifications:

  •  G.E.D. or High School Diploma required
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must work effectively and pleasantly with all members of the public and other employees.
  • Must have flexible schedule to work primarily nights and weekends
  • Effectively communicate with other staff members
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Starting Wage: $15.98/hour   

Ice Rink Attendant / Skate Guard

Overview: Responsible for the safe operation of facility programming with an emphasis on our public skating sessions and upkeep of the ice arena including sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties including restroom cleanliness.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in keeping all areas of the facility neat, clean and safe at all times. These duties include sweeping and mopping the rink restrooms, locker rooms, shower areas, lobby, meeting rooms, bleachers and removing trash, cleaning rink glass, etc.
  • Maintain rental skates, boots, and monitor if blade and/or boot repair is needed.
  • Adding/removing hockey nets from the ice rinks, unlock team locker rooms and retrieve hockey pucks if needed for daily events and activities.
  • Monitor all public session skating events both on and off the ice.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times and ensure that all policies are properly implemented.
  • Adhering to all policies and procedures that are implemented.
  • Complete any necessary paperwork such as accident/incident reports and inventory.
  • Operation of the point of sale system.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Ability to ice skate is preferred.
  • Flexible schedules to include nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job that are physically demanding.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment.

Zamboni Driver 

Overview: Responsible for driving the Zamboni correctly and safely to ensure and maintain acceptable ice conditions. Our drivers will also assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena including sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties including restroom cleanliness. Successful candidates will be trained completely on the operation and daily maintenance of the Zamboni. 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and drive the Zamboni ice resurfacing machine, edge conditioning, and other motorized equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of ice cuts, blade changes, and preventative maintenance.
  • Operate the scoreboard. Training will be provided.
  • Adding/removing hockey nets from the ice rinks, unlock team locker rooms and retrieve hockey pucks if needed for daily events and activities.
  • Monitor all public session skating events both on and off the ice.
  • Complete any necessary paperwork such as accident/incident reports and inventory.

  • Flexible schedules to include nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be highly motivated to learn new skills, (ice resurfacing, ice edging), that are essential for a successful rink operation.
  • Must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this job that are physically demanding. An ability to interact and communicate well with others is essential.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively. This will include the ability to complete daily reports. 
  • Be able to follow safety guidelines and exercise good judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment.

 Starting Wage: $13/hour

Concession Attendant
Overview: Under direction of the scheduled supervisor, provide excellent customer service to the ice arena concession patrons. Take food orders and prepare food. Stock concession supplies and food. Cash register operations using the point of sale system. Maintain concession area in a sanitary and organized manner.

 Responsibilities:

  •  Organize, store and rotate food items and supplies.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of facility, equipment and surrounding areas. 
  • Operation of the point of sale system.
  • Responsible for cash register operations to include accurately collecting and depositing money, selling concessions and completing deposit slips.
  • Ensure quality of products and accurate service of all food and beverage items.
  • Providing prompt, efficient and courteous service to all patrons.
  • Reporting any needed repairs to the shift supervisor.
  • Following policies and procedures established for concession operation and employee conduct and practices.
  • Complete any necessary paperwork such as accident/incident reports and inventory.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Shift Supervisor

Overview: We are actively seeking a motivated, dependable person for the position of Shift Supervisor. Flexibility and customer service oriented is a must. Prior ice rink experience, management, cashiering, and/or heavy equipment operation is a plus. Qualified candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be over 18 years of age.

Responsibilities:

  • The Shift Supervisor will assist the rink manager and operations coordinator with daily ice arena operations such as planning and implementation of associated work tasks as well as supervise the staff to ensure proper completion of tasks.
  • Listen, communicate, and work effectively with guests, staff, supervisors and management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Establish tasks to ensure a clean workplace, this includes stocking supplies and maintaining clean restrooms and public areas.
  • Assist staff members with proper work methods and standards, monitor work quality, insure adherence to time and break schedules, safe work practices and provide performance feedback.
  • Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena area including sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties including restroom cleanliness.
  • Monitor all public session skating events both on and off the ice.
  • Operation of the point of sale system.

Arena Facilities Lead

Overview: This is a part time position under the primary supervision of the Operations Manager.  This individual shall assist in afternoon, evening, and weekend operations at the Kennedy Recreation Center and other parks and recreation facilities.  The Arena Facilities Lead will receive supervision and assignments from the Operations Manager and Parks and Recreation Director, however, must use proper initiative, discretion, and specialized knowledge in the attainment of desired objectives.

Examples of Work: (Note: These examples are merely illustrations of the types of work that may be performed in this position and does not include all duties that may be assigned to this position.)

  • Assists in the recruitment, scheduling, and training of part-time staff and/or volunteers
  • Assist in supervision of facility, facility programming, and facility rentals
  • Assist in assuring accurate facility usage records are maintained through registration software.
  • Assist in overall evaluation of staff and programs
  • Assist in facility set-up and supervision
  • Ensures staff and patrons follow safety rules, policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Assist in management of supply/equipment inventories
  • Assists in the planning, organization, and supervision of youth sports programming and other revenue generating recreational programming
  • Assist in establishing programming schedules
  • Supervise and fill-in for part time staff when needed
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks as necessary
  • Assist in regularly scheduled ice maintenance
  • Must be willing to learn Zamboni operations
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the Kennedy Recreation Center and other City of Trenton Parks and Recreation facilities when needed
  • Assist in customer service and program registration
  • Interacts with customers and part-time staff on a regular basis
  • Detect and report property or equipment defects
  • Frequently positions one’s self low to the ground, in tight spaces, and/or uncomfortable positions.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder or other equipment to service equipment or items attached to walls and ceilings.
  • Serve as a liaison between the general public and the City of Trenton Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Perform other duties as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • G.E.D. or High School Diploma required
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must have prior experience in management and/or working with community-based recreation programming
  • Must have knowledge of basic office equipment as well as ability to learn recreational software programs
  • Must work effectively and pleasantly with all members of the public and other employees.

Additional Information:

Schedule will vary by season and based on department needs.  This position will primarily be scheduled to work evenings and weekends with the possibility to work during business hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm.  This is a year-round position.

Starting Wage: $16/hour
